You may be wondering, are people who smoke or vape at a higher risk for COVID-19?

If you smoke or vape, you may be at a higher risk for more serious outcomes of COVID-19. Smoking tobacco can result in respiratory issues that weaken your lungs and are considered an underlying medical condition. It can also weaken your immune system, making it harder for you to fight infections. This means that it can make smokers and vapers more vulnerable to COVID-19.

You can quit - we can help! Call us today at 1-866-366-3667 for information and to get support.

    HI Jenna
Yes this is one of the main reasons I quit. When I first started to look into Covid 19 and that it was a respiratory illness. I knew I would have to Quit before it made its way to Canada.  I did research and found out that  smokers who got Covid 19 were having a really hard time with recovery so I quit a month and 4 days ago.Even though it has only been a month and 4 days my lungs are still in the process of cleaning out so I get the usual cough up a bit of flem.I hope and pray that my vulnerable lungs can put up a good fight if I get the virus.I was wondering if maybe you or someone who can tell us if we just recently quit if our lungs are able to fight this? like as if we did not smoke?

    Hi Lisa Marie,

Congratulations on quitting for over 1 month! It is great to hear that your body is in a state of healing.

In terms of 'risk', the Canadian Cancer Society recommends quitting smoking and vaping to decrease the risk of cancer and of infectious (like COVID-19) and chronic illness.

On an individual basis, we would not be able to tell you your exact risk or odds of recovery. However, please know that quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health.

Keep up the amazing work you are doing,

    Jenna Lee

I'm pretty new here.....2 weeks in as of today I'm into my 15th day :-)  It has definately (and thankfully!) gotten less intense and uncomfortable the last few days.  I know there will be more tough days ahead but this time (after 30 yrs, a pack  day) I am so done with smoking....my lungs feel so good....I feel so good....it's kinda surreal sometimes.

    Hi Zenfulway
Congrats on two weeks. That is great. I will be 8 weeks tomorrow. It does get easier as each week goes by.
