So, I have my starter kit of Champix.  Am starting in the morning.  I also am thinking of using the nicotine inhaler to help me out.  Anyone else tried the Champix?  If so, how did it work out for you?
Thanks.  I don’t have a quit date yet!

Congratulations on getting your Champix starter kit. I initially quit on June 6th but relapsed. I stopped taking the Champix for about 10 days while I renewed my commitment to quit and then started again. I bought my last pack on June 29th and had my last cigarette in the morning of July 2nd. Smoking is an insidious habit with nothing redeeming about it. I find it is getting better every day but am cognizant I need to be vigilant. I am feeling much better both physically and psychologically. However, I do intend to continue taking the Champix for another couple of months. I don't like some of the side affects but will put up with them as I know it is just for awhile longer. I found the emailed "tips" very helpful and motivating. In any event - DON'T QUIT QUITTING !!  All The Best!!

    Hi christen1949,

Congratulation on getting your Champix starter Kit today that's wonderful news!

Champix work by stimulating the same areas of the brain that nicotine does. It prevent pleasurable effects of smoking. It helps to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and certainly is a proven quit method. However, CHAMPIX is not recommended to be used in combination with other smoking cessation treatments (e.g. patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler or Zyban). I hope this information is helpful.

Wishing you the BEST of luck in your quit journey and if you can keep us posted on your progress !!!

    Hi christen1949 and toby,

Congratulations christen on your decision to go smoke free, and toby on your renewed commitment.

I went smoke free two and a half years ago with Champix and it worked very well in getting me there in combination with a serious medical ailment forcing my hand. As toby noted keeping the commitment I had can be a challenge and I lost mine after five months smoke free. I immediately went straight back to over a pack a day!

I have again been smoke free these past four and a half months, but with some major differences from the last time. I have an entire tool kit to reinforce my commitment. Reading about others' successes here in the SHO forums is important. I keep a note of my reasons for quitting in front of me and I have a bucket list of rewards for completing milestones in the quit. I am also very active in the yard and garden and have a number of other hobbies to keep my mind off smoking. Recently I joined a gym as well. In effect, I am building a new smoke free life that I like much better than what I was doing.

The 4 D's are very much a part of my quit:
Delay. The urge will pass whether you smoke or not.
    Deep breathe.
    Drink water.
Do something to take your mind off smoking.

Wishing you both every success in  your quits.

    Eagerquit
