Hi. My name is Judi and I'm from Ontario.  I would like to quit smoking for health and finanial reasons. I just found this site today. I'm just worried I don't have enough willpower to quit especially cold turkey. I was hoping to find support here.

    Hi Judiwantstoquit,

Welcome to SHO.  It's great to hear that you have decided to quit smoking.

You don't have to do it cold turkey.  Nowadays, there is the patch, mist, gum, and medication.  Perhaps you should speak to your doctor to see what he or she recommends for you.  And if not your doctor, I am sure a pharmacist can make some suggestions.

You might want to look at some of the posts on this site from people using NRTs.  Most people find them really helpful.

As I am sure you know, quitting isn't easy, but you can do it.  You need to avoid triggers, distract yourself, drink lots of water, and be willing to change your routines.  I know it may sound like a lot of work, but most of it just makes sense.  You should read the information on this site to help you prepare for your quit.  The more you prepare, the easier it will be.

Glad to have you on board, Judiwantstoquit.  You are making the right decision to quit.  You won't regret it.

Hi Judi - I spent (wasted 40 +/- yrs ) give or take, thinking I did not have enuff willpower to quit.  Guess what? I am now at 13 months smoke free and let me tell you that you, yes you can quit.  Very cliché, but as many of us say, "If I can do it anybody can......."  I used nrt's this time, and for me it was the right choice.  I think it took just enuff edge off my cravings to help me combat the cravings.  Support from this site was crucial to my success.  I am not one to ask for a lot of support in life but for this endeavour of a smokeless life I am truly grateful for the support I received here from  veterans that told me "easier days will come", coaches, moderators and those at the same stages of self doubt, pain, self loathing, more pain, cravings ................ basically hell! (Thanks again, Treepeo!).  Judi, if you really, really want this - you can do this.  We all know it is not easy but it is doable.  Let us know when you set a date and we will be here to cheer you on.  I choose not to smoke today!
