    Hello everyone

It's  been 6 days since I quit smoking. I have a terrible cough and hopefully that goes away soon!

    Good Evening jmme,

    Welcome to SHO!

We're so glad you've joined our community and know you'll find lots of support as you quit! Congrats for making it through your first 6 days!

Coughing is a symptom in the list of normal withdrawal symptoms, drinking lots of water and keeping hard candies on hand can help. We like to think of coughing as one of those signs that your body is trying to repair itself . It shouldn't last too long. If it worsens or concerns you give your Doctor a call to get it checked out.

Hope we'll see you here posting - all questions, concerns or updates are always welcome!

    Hi jmme,

Congratulations to you for quitting!  Way to go!

I think your coughing is a good thing, because it means your lungs are starting to clear out.  Make sure you drink lots of water, because it will help your body to get rid of toxins.
