Hi, I'm trying today to quit for my third time within the last 2 months.  My motivation for quitting is my 5 year old daughter telling me smoking is bad for me.  Also I have a lot of physical symptoms like sore throat, sinus congestion, painful gum... I'm getting tired of a new one showing up as time goes on and the damage worsens.  I believe I went back to cigarettes the last 2 times primarily due to severe constipation.  I've bought teas and pills this time and hope for much less discomfort than the last 2 times.  Also my husband is a heavy smoker.  He smokes in a room attached to the house and when he comes back in from smoking there the smell is unbearable.  When I smoke with him I can't smell it!  Anyways, I work this week which makes it easier since no one smokes at my work.  Does anyone have other resources, groups that could help with the journey?  I really want to be surrounded my people that "know" exactly how hard this is...  Thanks!  tsaud

    Hi tsaud,

I am glad that you are giving it another try.  Never give up, keep plugging away.  You can do this.

I know it's hard, particularly because your husband still smokes.  But the greatest gift you can give to your daughter is to quit.  Firstly, you will be setting a good example for her.  And also, if you quit, she is less likely to take up the habit herself.  Kids ultimately tend to do what their parents do.  I know that I started smoking because virtually my whole family smoked, and it was easier to live with the smoke in the house if I smoked myself.  That led to an addiction to smoking that lasted 43 years.  Pretty pathetic, eh?  It's a wonder I'm still alive.

I hope you get the support you need to get through this, tsaud.  If you speak to your doctor, or even call the helpline here, they may be able to put you in touch with a group you can attend to give you additional support.  And of course, we are always here for you as well.

    Hi tsaud!

As treepeo suggested, we are here... come on and post anytime, and getting in touch with our helpline is a good resource, not only from quit coach support but we do check local supports for you and share what is available.

Keep up with your water intake and I am sure that combined with your teas and medications will keep you comfortable and smoke free. You've got a good plan.

Let us know how you are feeling!
