    Hi butterflyna,

You have such a tremendous strength, the perseverance and the commitment to quit again, congratulations! You have worked very hard to get this far - keep moving forward in this way, you are doing fantastic!

As we know, the first few days can be tough and sometimes, it can feel like a roller coaster. But, you seem well prepared for this, you have the right mindset and you have some good tools – the patch and the gum – It’s awesome! With your determination and persistence, we believe that you can do this! Keep going strong!

We have such a wealth of wisdom here at SHL.ca and everyone is so supportive! Thank you everyone for all the encouraging and kind words. Together, we are stronger and we can do it!

    Hi atp,

You are such an awesome person. Thank you so much for letting me know all these little things that may arise with me. You take the time, which some really do and it is so very appreciated :)

I adore that ... Not One Puff Ever ... NOPE lol. I am having issues with my tongue. Like really bad dry mouth. The roof of my mouth hurts a little. I am just drinking water so I hope that goes away. I kinda get that dreamy feeling you mean. I have been feeling a tad more dreamy like since I quit. I hope that DOESN'T go away! JJ lol. I just feel better already. Pink cloud maybe??? I be careful. Your quit must've been so much harder just cold turkey. So glad you made it through! :)
Thank you so much for your
input and I pray we all make it this time! ODAAT.

    Hi linda,

Thank you so much for the awesome support! Also, thank you for the inspiration that I can do this! xoxo
There is a wealth of wisdom here. The main thing is you simply have to reach out and grab it. The lady Cathy I spoke to yesterday was so happy that I was using the supports. She said that often that is the problem. People either don't know they are there or perhaps don't really want them. I need them and am so very blessed to have them!!! I thank you all!!! TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!! We will do this ... ODAAT and NOPE lol (gotta love it) Have a blessed day Linda and ty again!

    Good morning all,

Just switched over to my 3rd day patch. Today I had a nap and it was so wonderful to wake up and just lay there. Usually as soon as I wake up the hacking starts, the inability to breath takes over and I am in panic mode for at least an hour. I enjoyed today. I did go out on my balcony when it was snowing and just breathed in the fresh air ... it was fresher than it's ever been, it seemed. Had some cravings but they were slight. Mainly cuz I am so used to going outside to smoke I just automatically start to do it, then reality hits ... I am a non smoker!  The patches have helped me immensely this time. My brother wanted me to meet him downtown Toronto in the morning for breakfast. I said I would but I am gonna have to change that answer. Driving from Whitby into Toronto, find parking, then busing downtown I think right now would probably be a little much stressful for me. I hope he understands. Anyway, day 2 was a great day. Looking forward to day 3. Hope all have a peaceful morning and we'll talk to you tomorrow. I am so blessed. ODAAT. And ... NOPE  lol

    Butterfly,

It is amazing how quickly the body heals once you quit smoking. That first morning you wake up and your chest feels clear, or you don't have that smokers cough - those and more amazing moments are waiting for you.

The one thing I really focused on was the benefits of not smoking. Look forward to all the good things. Just wait till you're out and about and you notice the stale smell of a smoker as they pass you by. Yuck! Seriously it is an eye opening moment.

The first week of my quit i was afraid to even take out the garbage because i usually had a smoke when i did it. So you trying to limit triggers - going downtown and dealing with the traffic is a big stressor for most people - was a really good call.

Just think, 3 days as a non-smoker - and you're already starting to look on the bright side of things!

Your doing it & noticing the benefits of being smoke free, keep up the good work! I agree with atp it’s important to take care of yourself when u first quit by being mindful of triggers.
In my first several days of my quit I tried to avoid any situations that might be troublesome for me & did things that helped me, like taking my niece & nephew out for supper & quitting on my days off.
Also agree with focusing on all the benefits of being smoke free, better breathing, smell, taste & overall health. I still remember that 3/4 day waking up, taking a big breath in & out & thinking wow this is the most amazing clean fresh breath everπŸ˜ƒ

    Wandam,

Oh yeah, that first good fresh breath...it was amazing, and thanks for reminding of that!
For me that was quickly followed by a day of cleaning all my jackets, lysol spray all over my garage, van and office. A total cleansing.

    Hi atp,
I am so looking forward to those moments! Each and every one will stick with me a lifetime. Ty for saying I made a good call re going to see my brother downtown. I felt bad in a way but quitting smoking has to be my priority now.
    Thanks atp.

    Hi Wandam,

Thanks so much for your positive feedback. Yes, triggers can really get ya. They did last month and I only made it a sliver into my 3rd day.Talking to my ex was a trigger I didn't even would be a trigger until I smoked. I learned from that! No contact what so ever. Well, texting me is ok. His negative self serving demeanor doesn't come through on his texts nearly as much. A fab thing :)
Thanks again and you keep going too!!! How long is it now? Awesomeness!!!

    Hey peeps/atp,

I've had 2 "vivid" dreams/nightmares now, which could be a direct result of me using the Patch. You warned me about this atp and others so yuppers, it's happened. The 2nd one was scary, where you wake up and don't wanna move cuz you think your life is still in danger. Don't like them ones no way no how. However, I now have to look at whether I should remove the patch when I go to sleep.
The first one, I think was sorta weird but in a pertinent way. It's may sound kinda gross but through the whole thing I kept coughing up this grass like substance. At the time it was like that thick grass that you get down by riverbeds and the like. I would cough it up into my hand and kept asking everyone why this was happening. All this was being ignored in my dream. Finally, in the dream, I looked into my hand and started really looking at what I was coughing up. Low and behold, there was paper mixed in with it. IT WAS ACTUALLY CIGARETTE BUTTS I WAS COUGHING UP!!! Isn't that insane and gross and all but in actual fact it was my body literally getting rid of all my past cigarettes, in my dream!!! Any thoughts on this? (dream readers or the like) Hope everyone is doing great/awesome/the best they can!!! <3

    Hi Butterfly,

Today is my 3rd month on my smoke free journey. I quit with champix & had vivid dreams. I quit taking the medication at the end of December & now have peaceful sleeps again. They say it’s not uncommon to have using dreams when u quit an addiction & I definitely had using dreams too, I would wake up thinking I smoked, thank goodness it was only a dream.

    Hi Wandam,
Boy oh boy can I relate to that! I'm on the patch quitting. These dreams I am having are a little much tho. To violent. I live alone and when I wake up I'm scared to even move! So bloody. Certain foods can do it to me too, if I go to sleep right after eating.
Mucho congratulations on 3+ months smoke free! I can only pray I get there πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ Thanks for being here. Like the others, you are such an amazing inspiration to me. Have a blessed day.

    Hi all!

On my 4th day and 22 hours. Still feeling great! I slept almost 6 hours today which is the longest I have slept in a few days. I find the nightmares aren't as bad in the past few sleeps, which is great. Had some triggers too but dealt with them...At a friends apt and she asked if she could smoke in front to me and I said sure. I can't expect her not to smoke in her own home! I figured if it really triggered me I would just leave. I could really smell it when she lite up tho. Not a good or bad smell to me. We were talking and I did sort of "notice" the cigarette more than I would have liked to. I didn't stay long and when I got up to my apt I didn't think of it again. Now that's odd for me! lol  Just feeling tired tonight. Got a big day tomorrow so hopefully I can sleep sound. ODAAT and NOPE! Thanks for being here!

Wow Butterfly - that's incredible!!!  I think if someone smoked in front of me that close during the first week of my quit I would have ripped the cigarette from their yellow stained fingers and devoured it.  It proves you have the determination to quit, and it is that determination that will lead you to your success.

    I'm so happy for you!

Butterflyna, I'm joining in with the cheering section for you too!

I took a look at your first post in this thread, a mere 30 days ago, and you were feeling down and like "a loser" because you couldn't seem to quit. It's remarkable just how far you have come! You had the gumption to move forward, gather your strength and supports, and go for it!

Keep doing what you're doing -- trusting the process, taking it one day at a time, posting here for support, and noticing the improvements in your life from quitting!

Speaking of cheering, I wanted to give a big cheer as well to the folks on SHL.ca who are giving such good guidance and understanding. You are awesome!

I made it. 7 days. One whole week. Awesomeness. I am so pleased with myself lol. Got in the car today and was the first time I reached for my cigarettes in my pocket. Scared me a little. Probably a healthy scare tho. I didn't want a cigarette. I guess it was just out of habit. I sincerely want to thank you all for your support and advice. I couldn't have made it an hour without you all! Looking forward to the next week! ...ODAAT AND NOPE

    Butterfly,

Hell week is behind you now!

I still check my coat pocket for my non-existent smokes most days before I leave the house. Heck, I even caught myself absentmindedly asking for a pack of smokes when paying for gas at the station a few weeks ago. It's that hard wired habit stuff that slips out when we are not focused. I started to keep a pack of gum there now.

Glad to see you are succeeding. Take a minute and just take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy the feeling. And reward yourself for getting this far! I went to see a movie on my first week. A nice dinner and band for my one month.

Hi Butterfly - We knew you could do it!

I've learned to just laugh at all the times I've reached for my smokes and they aren't there, and haven't been for months.  It's actually quite liberating when I really stop to think about it.  I've broken free of this addiction that still has all these little reminders of what and how life used to be.

You've prepared yourself for success, set SMART goals, and are being very mindful of attaining those goals.  You will succeed.  Spring is just around the corner (I hope), and soon we can all begin spending more time outside.  You will revel in the fresh air with your new found energy.

Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us.  Have a glorious weekend.

    Hey atp!

Yessiree and Thank you so much for all your help. I thought it was you who mentioned about checking for smokes in your pocket?? So weird that is eh? First time in the whole week I did that was last night?? The "hard wired" habit is so very hard to break! Odd but I have gum in my pocket all the time. I do get the dry mouth from my meds and have for years so I use the Biotine MW, Toothpaste and spray. I always have to have gum on me.
My bad dreams have left. Very pleased about that! I still go for coffee at nite but listen to music or play games on my phone. One of the most difficult times for me was when I was warming up the car. That's when I would always have a cigarette. Now I just rock away to some music lol.
I actually did go out on the balcony and take a deep breath of fresh air. Well worth it! Lucy (my cat) who has helped me so much too came out with me. She is having a hard time with me not going outside to have a smoke every hour or so. "Going through Changes" All of us. For the better!
I don't think I get any treats for one week. No funds lol but that's ok. I watch a good movie at home with Lucy. Perhaps in time. Thanks again for everything! ODAAT & NOPE!!! :)

    Hey E!

Thank you so very much!!! I am looking forward to the spring. I need to get out in the fresh air. My apt is very small. It will be a whole new experience. Last summer I used to hang around with the smokers in the park. I will probably still see them and drop by to say Hi but won't be staying. I gotta keep moving! lol Hey, the clocks go back this weekend too! Awesome.
Thank you for being here for me to share my journey, and all the advice! All of you are go fabulous!
