Hi sue-q
Welcome to this forum! I have found this community helpful and supportive since I quit smoking on March 5.
I thought about quitting for a whole year, and did all sorts of preparation before I actually jumped off the ledge. I set quit date after quit date, and panicked the day before each one - telling myself I wasn't ready, I couldn't do it well, I FINALLY did it - there was a snow storm and I had only one cigarette left - but I had Nicorette since I had been preparing to quit for so long! So that was my quit date! And I have been doing great ever since - it hasn't been easy, but it has been 110% worth it!
I found it helpful to make a quit plan, and to state my reasons for quitting, and then to review those regularly. And to have nicotine replacement, identify triggers and avoid those situations when I can. Take deep breaths. Drink lots of water. Just last night, I had a dream that I smoked two cigarettes! That was new.
What really helps me is to see how much money I'm saving, how much life I'm gaining, feel how much more energy I have, and to hear my 9 year old son say "you're doing great, mom!" And also to step outside and feel that I have broken free from the chains of smoking!
You can do it! Looking forward to hearing about how you're doing......
