Hi there, at last I’m here!  Did have difficulty with NRT step 2, after 3 days had to go back to step 1.  The insecurity that I am feeling is still there.  On the other hand, I feel better than expected.  Thanks for being here.

    Carm.

    Hi clepage1,

It is completely normal to feel insecure.  Quitting is a difficult process, and it takes a long time to make the necessary adjustments to our way of life.  There is nothing wrong with staying at a level of NRT that you are comfortable with.  You will know when it is time to make a move to a different level.  I never used them myself, but I imagine they have guidelines on the packages.  But those are just that - guidelines.  You are still getting a really small dosage of nicotine as compared to  smoking cigarettes, and in addition, you are not getting all of the other noxious chemicals that are found in cigarettes.  So I see no harm in staying on whatever stage you need to in order to keep you smoke free.

And I would like to congratulate you on making it 3 weeks smoke free.  That is terrific, and you should be really proud of yourself!

Hi clepage1 - Big congrats on 3 weeks!!!!  You should be very proud!  I was insecure for a lot longer than 3 weeks.  I did 9 weeks on step 1 patches, 6 weeks on step 2 and 5 weeks on step 3 and was probably still insecure for awhile after that.  On the sage advise of one of the many "Super Heroes", (Got To) on SHO, I did not rush to step down to the next level until I thought I was ready.  Maybe I was never 100% sure I was ready but more ready than if I had tried sooner.  Along with support from quit buddies Treepeo,  HaveFaith and a host of wise veterans, I am proud to say I am close to 11 months smoke free.  Don't rush it clepage1, take it one day at a time, visit this site often and you will succeed.  I just know it.

    Hi clepage1,

    You are doing so well!

Keep up the good work - as time goes on some of the insecurity will start to fade. It's normal to feel a little unsteady as you quit - after all, you are going through so many physical, psychological and even social changes. Getting three weeks in is a great accomplishment!
